What does ie mean?
This document was written mostly cause I'm lazy and don't feel like
explaining the meaning of "ie" anymore.
Here's what the dictionary has to say:
ie adv : that is to say; in other words [syn:
i.e., id est, that is]
Here's what it really means (what I use ie in place of):
- Yeah
- Sure
- I agree
- Uh hu
- Yep (or yup)
- totally
- right on
- correct
- don't i know it (man and/or sister)
- true
- fuck yah (normally meant when used as IE or I E)
- I understand
Where did it come from?:
I picked it up while on the job at Westcliff Medical Labs from a
coworker we liked to call "Brada".
The two simple letters take the place of so many things we'd like to say,
it just became commonplace.
What does ie have to do with your definitions/usage?:
The dictionary definition of "that is to say" is loosely analogous to
the meanings I gave it above.
